IN 1982 AN UNSUSPECTING U public was terrified through a string of deaths combineed to cyanide-laced Extra-Strength Tylenol capsules. Claiming the lives of seven Chicago residents, this product-tampering scare had a big impact upon how over-the-counter (OTC) medication is packaged.

Not prolonged after the murders, the commons and Drug Administration devised regulations that required OTC medication packaging to have "one or more indicators or barriers to record which, if breached or missing, can reasonably be rely uponed to provide visible evidence to consumer that tampering has occurred"
